"Dream Girl" ... drawn by Ron McDowell around 19 ... ??? ... let's just say before my time shall we.

This was a huge (re)discovery I made last week! I had completely forgotten my dad had a love for drawing as well.
This little lovely was one of his favourites. So much so I was told by my mum he had it framed and proudly on display in their home.
For reasons unknown to me Dad put his pencil down before I was born. Somewhere buried in my house is a little sketchbook that was his. I remember he liked lampooning promenant American politians from the World War Two era. (I think)

.... and here I am playing with phrases again ....

Getting down to the last of my material from the beginnings with this. There might be two left then it's just the current stuff .... worts and all!
Here I was playing with a material called "Letraset". It's the shading used on the window, pilings, etc. I used to buy it by the sheet and literally cut & paste the stuff right on to the drawing .... low tech or what??!

This comes from my version of the "... Experience Has Taught Me That ..." department.

The moon has always been such a rich source of material for me. It just never gets old .... I have to credit George Noory's Coast To Coast AM for some of my ideas. At times the guests' topics send my brain spinning off, off, waaay off to areas no "normal" mind would go.

Back when I took an art class we were encouraged to try our hand at drawing charactures ... what can I say ...

Wednesday, June 8, 2011. .... a day early .... again!

Posting early again this week.
Above is another example of my love of playing with words and phrases. The inspiration for this came to me during a conversation with my son. I asked what he and his girlfriend had planned for their weekend and the reply was something like: "Oh, I think we might go garage sale-ing Sunday."

Back when our boys were little we would all load up the car and travel by ferry to Vancouver and spend a long weekend with my wife's parents. I believe this is a sketch I did from a photograph I took from Kitsolano Beach looking accross towards Vancouver's North Shore area. One of my few attempts at "serious" sketching.

Well, I'm off!

Tuesday, June 7, 2011

Yeah yeah I know, I'm really early with this posting. Well, I wasn't sure how well I could post using my little netbook. Now I know ... looks OK.
This one's from so long ago I didn't even date it. Not sure what that says about my state of mind back then not dating my work.
So anyhoo, I humbly offer this drawing as a bonus.(experiment is a more apt description) I'll be on the road the next couple of weeks and promise to make every effort to post.
... ???! ... OOPS ... seems I did date this. It's hiding in Smokey's fur on his left shoulder.
This getting old thing really sucks!

Wednesday, June1, 2011. .... a day early ....

It's been my experience in life some of what I thought at the time was my best thinking led me down roads to destinations and outcomes that left me thinking ... "WTF??! ... how did I end up here??"
Thus the inspiration for the above drawing.

This "gem" is new but at the same time old. What I present here is one of the drawings that never made it from my sketch book to a finished product some 21 years ago. So I finished it.
